Mika is an independent consultant/researcher/trainer on non-profit organizations. Since established her office called Risk Management Office for Non-profit Organizations in 2000, she has advocated the importance of risk management in the non-profit sector and worked together with various not-for-profit organizations as well as community organizations and support organizations for non-profit organizations in Japan. However, her scope of work is not limited in the range of risk management. Over 20 years, she has also worked at NGOs in the US and Japan on programs regarding non-profit management, human rights, CSR, volunteer/internship program development. She also worked at a volunteer centre established within a university to promote youth volunteerism. Because she strongly believes that volunteering is about civic engagement for sustainability and democracy; she claims that all agents involved in volunteer activities should be aware of their risks and chances to receiving, sending, and doing volunteer activities.
