Ms. Markara Nuon is a Project Assistant for United Nations Volunteers Project in Cambodia. Ms. NUON oversees Program and Operations part and is involved in planning the activities for promoting local volunteer program in Cambodia.
Ms. Nuon is passionate about her job as an active advocator on promoting volunteerism, citizen engagement through person to person, seminar at the University, national and international events on Youth and volunteer work. She believes that it is very important for youths from all walks of life to learn and work together through social activities toward the same goal. With their hand on, young people could understand the current social problem and be engaging in dealing with problem and fully involving in the economic development in Cambodia.
Prior to the current job, Ms. NUON was Program Assistant for UNV field office which her work focused on both local and international volunteer contribution to Cambodia. She was an Executive Assistant with US Peace Corps. She supported the country director and senior staff to create a smooth, supporting environment for American Volunteers that serve in Cambodia. Ms. NUON had developed and sustained strong support from key personnel, national and sub-national, from Ministry of Education Youth and Sport and Ministry of Health for their support toward program’s activities.
Her first journey with Peace Corps was as Security Coordinator for four and a half. It was the time when US Peace Corps first just started in Cambodia. She supported the program staff to assess the security of the site for placing volunteers, advocate for the vision of the mission. With those ground work, now Peace Corps is well-known in the community.
Ms. NUON holds a bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Development Studies, majoring in Community Development.
