Biography

Bill has worked in the Voluntary and Community Sector for 45 years and has for the past 25 years held senior management positions for a number of key organisations in Northern Ireland. He was Director of Voluntary Service Bureau for twenty years and led the organisation through a successful merger process. Previous employment includes Assistant Director, NI Association Care and Resettlement of Offenders where he established the HR and Training Department; as UK Director for AFS International Programmes he was responsible for developing a portfolio of youth and teacher intercultural exchange programmes including one of the first teacher exchanges in 1985/86 between the UK and the People’s Republic of China.

Bill has had extensive involvements with local and UK charitable grant giving foundations and has acted as the Northern Ireland advisor to The Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, The Pilgrim Trust and the Woman Caring Trust. In addition, Bill has been involved with the Prince’s Trust, Sydney Stewart Memorial Trust and The Ian Gow Memorial Fund. More recently he was for 10 years the Chairperson of the Building Change Trust which was £10 million time limited fund to support and invest in change and innovation within the non- profit sector in Northern Ireland.

Currently he works part time for The VSB Foundation, a small grant giving and research charity for the community and voluntary sector. Recent work has included research/ grant giving to organisations working with women offenders; Migrant women; Research into Trustee governance; Collaboration work with volunteering support organisations.
