Founded in 1970, the International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE) exists to promote, support and celebrate volunteering in all of the many ways throughout the world. With members in more than 70 countries, IAVE is truly an essential global platform connecting and networking NGOs, businesses, universal leaders of volunteering and national volunteer centers to create a fair, peaceful, sustainable and compassionate world.IAVE’s work focuses on four core functions.
- Advocacy – IAVE, through national and international communication channels and institutions, advocates and recognises critical issues and the development of volunteers.
- Knowledge development and dissemination – IAVE, not only actively shares the knowledge, supports research and organized learning activities to encourage the development of new knowledge on volunteering
- Network development and mobilization – IAVE creates and sustains networks of stakeholders and members who share the same belief to reinforce shared capacity to pursue our mission. Examples are such as Global Corporate Volunteer Council (GCVC) and our Global Network of National Volunteer Centers.
- Convening – IAVE hosts face-to face and online conferences. This aims to bring leaders in volunteering to discuss, debate and deepen our shared understanding of volunteering and its potential as a global strength for good.
